Subscription services that are signature based (or heuristic) require regular updates to function properly. This is because they identify threats by checking that item against their current database. Ensure that your signature-based subscription services are up to date by enabling automatic updates. We recommend setting this to an hourly basis to ensure that your firewall is as up to date as possible.
Within Policy Manager use the following to access automatic updates:
Subscription Services->Application Control->Update Server
Before discussing this Update Server window, it’s important to point out that you can select update server from any heuristic-based subscription service. Each window you open will look identical to the one above.
On the Update Server window, you have the ability to select the Subscription Services that you wish to have automatic updates, and the interval of time that the services reach out for updates. As you can see, your license on the WatchGuard will determine if certain areas are not able to be selected for automatic updates. Be sure to save your configuration after making these changes! Not having these settings enabled is a common error that JSCM Group observes on firewalls, so double-check yours to make sure you’re staying up to date.
